Welcome to Our Blog

WELCOME TO OUR BLOG......JONES'n for Curls

Hey Y’all! I'm Kamilah…most people call me Kam or Kami and I proudly hail from Orangeburg, SC currently living in NYC.  I am a graduate of Johnson & Wales University, and now work in advertising; however I have a major passion for our youth and their future.  As a spirited natural curly girl, I can honestly say that being natural is one of the things I’m most proud of.  I probably went natural for some of the same reasons many others have gone natural. You see, since my college days I had been struggling to maintain length and manage my (at the time undiagnosed) seborrheic dermatitis. After some urging, and then pushing of my little sister Maryam, I starting thinking about the possibilities of what natural hair could do for confidence and overall health. I am honestly blessed that I had (1) an amazing stylist to guide me through the process  (2) a supportive group of family and friends (3) countless bloggers and you tubers that had me up, sometimes all night reading, watching and admiring.  On October 26, 2009, I big chopped and never looked back. I've had many bumps in the road but that comes with the territory, I just get back up. Throughout my hair journey, I've been educated, made friends, and most importantly gained a since of self-assurance and confidence that can’t be over looked.

Take it Away Maryam!!!....

Hey Curlies!  My name is Maryam and I'm the little-big sister (standing just at 6'0). Kam and I have pretty much an identical background, including the fact that we both are Johnson & Wales University alum. Unlike my sister I don't live in NYC (just yet), but in Providence, RI. I landed here for school in 2005, which is the same year I went natural.  The natural scene in my area leaves much to be desired for, which means everything I do is learned through the wonderful world of natural hair blogs and YouTube or trial and error. Some of these errors are big enough to make any curl gasp, including two major (traumatic) cuts, constant breakage due to poor styling and coloring, and just downright being a bad natural. Throughout all this I have come to embrace my journey of having healthy hair, as well as an overall physical, mental and spiritual awakening.  I can speak for both of us and say that we are very excited to have this platform and we look forward to connecting with women that are JONES’n for curl talk.

Maryam and I have talked about writing a blog for a while now and its finally coming to fruition. Our last name Jones, is one that we are so proud of...why not use it in our blog; and of course Curls is what we are both about.

We couldnt be more happy to share our experience with you. We hope that you join in our journey for Curl education, length retention, simplistic living and overall health. Please support us with your love, prayers, comments. Thank you for reading! xoxo
